Diane Peters

Diane Peters is leaving the Linux Foundation and I am sure that she will be heading into some new and exciting challenges. Diane will be missed here. I’d just like to thank her for the wonderful work she did in addressing the legal issues that were blocking the widespread adoption of open source projects and Linux in particular. Besides her prominate role with the GPLv3 team, she established the legal defense fund which was used to defend against law suites such as SCO. She managed the Linux trademark, and fostered industry wide legal partnerships such as:
- Open Source as Prior Art (OSAPA), to reduce and challenge frivolous software patents
- Software Freedom Law Center
- Sponsoring and funding incorporation of kernel.org,
- Patent Commons Project where companies can assign patents used by open source projects
Best of luck to you Diane. We will miss the lively conversations around the coffee machine, your friendship, and your open source legal insights.
